This year’s Checkered Flag Productions points chase is heating up. The points after this weekend’s event in Monroe, Louisiana have now been released. Rick Long in Bigfoot currently leads, but with several events till the finals in Pocatello, Idaho, the field is wide open. Checkered Flag Productions Update on 2006 Points
Tom Meents sweeps Peoria!
It was a Team Meents-dominated weekend in Peoria, IL at the Peoria Civic Center. The show featured the likes of Tom Meents in Maximum Destruction, Guy Wood in the Bob and Tom show truck, Andy Slifco in Eradicator, Jon Zimmer in Backdraft and Bruce Hubbard in Devastator. Tom Meents would win 8 out of the 9 events between racing and freestyle before Guy Wood would take the last freestyle event of the weekend. Other highlights included several great sky wheelies from Mark Hubbard in Devastator and a rollover from Andy Slifco’s Eradicator during Friday nights freestyle. The truck suffered some body damage but was able to continue racing during the weekend’s shows.
Indy Results!
Once again Tom Meents threw down in the RCA Dome and put on quite a show to sweep the event. The night had some very close races and the finals came down to Carl VanHorn in T-Maxx and Tom Meents in Maximum Destruction. Meents would take the win after Van Horn nearly rolled in a turn. After beating T-Maxx in the finals Meents went on to put on a great freestyle with plenty of huge air to score a 30 and did an encore which featured more of the same big air and even a slap wheelie out of Maximum Destruction. The freestyle was hard on the trucks as five trucks rolled over. Most notably was Jim Koehler in Avenger after getting huge air upon the landing both rear wheels broke off the axle causing a lot of damage. In all it was Carnage filled night and we thank Mike Alston for providing lots of great results.
Kansas City Results
Josh Rhodes has checked in from tonight’s show in Kansas City. It was breakage-filled, with King Krunch taking the win over Gary Porter and Grave Digger 12 in racing. Maximum Destruction was originally scheduled to race in the final, but hit the wall in his semifinal run and was towed from the track. Maximum Destruction was repaired and took the freestyle win with a 27 that included big air and a vertical sky wheelie with the front-engine truck. Cyborg lost a transmission and Porter had no front steering in his run.
Weenk Continues Domination!
It was a wild, wet and muddy night in Anaheim, California. The finals on the slippery course came down to the 2Xtreme team as one of the hottest drivers on the circuit, Linsey Weenk in Iron Outlaw would take on the boss, Jimmy Creten in Bounty Hunter. Despite only running on six valves in the engine, Weenk went on to get his fourth straight stadium Monster Jam win. In freestyle it was Brian Winston running the Hot Wheels body on his usual Monster Mutt taking the freestyle win. His run included a wild slap wheelie that tore off the tailgate and bed sides, and upon the front wheels coming down he slid the truck into Obsession. First Look, New Schemes for 06!
Three new schemes made their debut last night during opening night of the Monster Jam 2006 winter season. The new Del Scorcho sponsored by Del Taco and Jim Bendzick’s Rolling Thunder both started their seasons in Council Bluffs, Iowa, while a new Ford-bodied Pastrana 199 driven by Courtney Jolly made it’s debut in Rochester, New York. Chad Tingler to drive Grave Digger 14!
This weekend in Rochester, New York will be the first time that Chad Tingler will take the reigns of Grave Digger 14. He will have to face off with a great lineup of trucks on the Thunder Nationals course including Courtney Jolly in Pastrana 199, Diehl Wilson in Virginia Giant, Rick Raab in the American Guardian and Scott Poirier in Anger Management. Stay tuned to AllMonster over the course of the weekend for updates from Pontiac, Houston, and Council Bluffs, Iowa, which features the debut of Del Scorcho and the new Rolling Thunder paint!
Inverness – Gun Slinger Wins Racing, VanHorn Wins Freestyle
Carl VanHorn’s first show of the three-show weekend in T-Maxx started off on the right foot. He took the truck to the racing finals, losing a close race to Gun Slinger and Scott Hartsock.
“I thought I had him, but we looked at the tape and I ended up passing him after the line,” said VanHorn. “The truck felt good; we’re gonna mess with the front shocks some before tonight’s show, but overall it was good, and I hope I made some fans by the end of the night.”
The wheelie contest was a T-Maxx win, with VanHorn putting the wheelie bar to good use. Hartsock pushed VanHorn hard with some big jumps in freestyle, and the only move he did not match was VanHorn’s donuts. T-Maxx won in a crowd cheer-off.
VanHorn to Drive T-Maxx at Inverness
After speaking today with Brandon Lagarde of Sudden Impact Racing, then with Carl VanHorn, it is confirmed that VanHorn will be driving T-Maxx this weekend at the Southern Monster Truck Showdown in Inverness, Florida.
“I had given notice with Clear Channel and was ready to start my lumber hauling job here in North Carolina,” said VanHorn. “Then Brandon called and said he would pay my way down to the show here, and I could see how I liked driving the truck.”
Lagarde and VanHorn both stated that there are future possibilities as far as VanHorn driving, but both will see how the weekend goes, and that nothing beyond this show is definite.
